Help & support

Welcome to Calobee — your personal calorie and nutrition tracker. Below you'll find out how the app works, how your calorie goal is calculated, and answers to common questions.

How the app works

Calobee helps you track what you eat, monitor your calorie intake, and stay on top of your nutritional goals — all in one place. You can log food by taking a photo, scanning a barcode, or entering it manually. The app calculates your daily calorie goal based on your personal profile and shows you how you're doing throughout the day.

Screen guide

Home — your daily overview at a glance

The Home screen is your daily dashboard. It shows everything you need to know about today's nutrition at a glance.

Calorie ring. The large ring at the top shows how many calories you've consumed versus your daily goal. The ring fills as you log meals, and the number in the centre shows how many calories are remaining. When you go over your goal, the ring turns red and shows the excess.

Your calorie goal is calculated automatically using the Mifflin-St Jeor formula, based on your weight, height, age, sex, and activity level.

Macro bars. Below the ring are three progress bars for your main macronutrients: protein, carbohydrates, and fat. Each bar shows how much you've eaten versus your daily target. Targets are calculated as a percentage of your calorie goal.

Today's food log. Below the macros is a list of everything you've logged today. Tap any item to edit the quantity or delete it. Each entry shows the food name, quantity in grams, and total calories.

Calendar. Use the arrows beside the date to move to the previous or next day and see what you ate. Tap the date to open the month calendar and jump to any day. Days with a log show a coloured ring indicating whether you stayed within your calorie goal:

  • Green ring — under goal
  • Orange ring — near limit (90–100%)
  • Red ring — over goal

Needs attention. If any nutrient (such as sugar, saturated fat, or sodium) exceeds its recommended daily limit, a "Needs attention" card appears. Tap it to see which nutrients are too high, which foods are contributing most, and tips on how to improve.

Diary — log and manage your meals

The Diary screen is where you add new food entries and manage your full food history per day. A week strip at the top lets you tap a day to view that day's log; future days are greyed out. Every time you return to the Diary tab, it resets to today.

Adding food — photo

  • Tap the camera button or the "+" button.
  • Point your camera at the food and take a photo.
  • Calobee's AI analyses the image and identifies the food.
  • A confirmation sheet appears with the recognised food, estimated weight, and nutritional values.
  • Adjust the name or quantity if needed — calories recalculate automatically.
  • Tap "Add to diary" to save the entry.
The AI works best with a single dish clearly visible in good lighting. Mixed plates or partially hidden foods may be less accurate.

Adding food — barcode scan

  • Tap the barcode icon.
  • Hold your camera over the product barcode.
  • The app looks up the product in the nutrition database.
  • Confirm the serving size and tap "Add to diary".

Adding food — manual entry

  • Tap the "+" button and choose "Search food".
  • Type the name of the food.
  • Select the correct result from the list.
  • Enter the quantity in grams.
  • Tap "Add to diary".

Editing an entry. Tap any food item in the list to open the edit sheet. You can change the quantity in grams and all nutritional values update automatically. Tap the delete icon to remove the entry entirely.

Favourites. Frequently eaten foods can be saved as favourites. Open a food's edit sheet and tap the heart icon to add it to your favourites list. You can then quickly re-add it from the Favourites section when logging.

Progress — charts and trends over time

The Progress screen shows visual charts of your nutrition data over time, so you can spot patterns and stay motivated.

Calories chart. A bar chart shows your daily calorie intake for each day of the selected period. A dashed line marks your daily calorie goal. Days under goal are shown in green; days over goal in red or orange.

Macro trend chart. A line chart shows how your protein, carbohydrate, and fat intake have changed over time. Each macro has its own colour:

  • Purple line — protein (g)
  • Amber line — carbohydrates (g)
  • Orange line — fat (g)

Period selector. Tap the period buttons at the top to switch between 7 days, 30 days, or 90 days of history.

Summary cards. Below the charts are summary cards showing your averages for the selected period: average daily calories, average protein, average carbs, and average fat.

Check the Progress screen weekly to see if your habits are moving in the right direction. Small, consistent improvements matter more than perfection on a single day.

Profile — your settings and personal goals

The Profile screen is your personal hub. Here you can update your details, adjust your goals, and configure the app to suit your preferences.

  • Edit profile. Update your name, motivation text, birthday, height, weight, and goal weight. When you save, your daily calorie goal is automatically recalculated.
  • Personal goals. Set your targets for protein, carbs, fat, water, and steps with the sliders. Your daily calorie goal is calculated automatically from your profile and weight goal.
  • Dietary preferences. Tell Calobee about your dietary style (balanced, vegetarian, vegan, keto), food allergies, disliked foods, and preferred cuisines.
  • Reminders. Set up meal reminders to help you log consistently. Each reminder has a time, active days, and an on/off toggle.
  • Notification settings. Control which notifications you receive: goal alerts, streak updates, AI tips, weekly reports, and more.
  • Units. Choose your preferred units for weight, height, energy, liquids, and date format.
  • Privacy. Control your privacy preferences, such as personalised recommendations, and open our Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.
  • Manage account. Change your email, password, or notification email address. You can also permanently delete your account and all associated data.
Deleting your account is permanent and cannot be undone. All your food logs, profile data, and settings will be removed.

How your calorie goal is calculated

Calobee calculates your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) — the calories your body burns at rest — using the Mifflin-St Jeor formula, which is widely considered the most accurate formula for the general population.

  • Men: BMR = (10 × weight kg) + (6.25 × height cm) − (5 × age) + 5
  • Women: BMR = (10 × weight kg) + (6.25 × height cm) − (5 × age) − 161

Your BMR is then multiplied by an activity factor to estimate your Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE): sedentary, lightly active (1–3 days/week), moderately active (3–5 days/week), very active (6–7 days/week), or extra active (twice per day).

Finally, an adjustment is made for your goal:

  • Lose weight — a deficit based on your chosen pace
  • Maintain weight — no adjustment
  • Gain weight — a calorie surplus
All values are estimates. Individual metabolism varies. Consult a healthcare professional if you have specific medical dietary needs.

Frequently asked questions

Why does the AI not recognise my food correctly?

AI food recognition works best with a single, clearly visible dish in good lighting. Mixed plates, food in packaging, or blurry photos may result in incorrect identification. If the result is wrong, tap the food name in the confirmation screen and type the correct name manually.

Can I log food without an internet connection?

Yes. Manual food logging works fully offline — entries are saved to your device immediately. When your internet connection is restored, the data is automatically synced to your account. Photo recognition and barcode scanning require an internet connection.

Why is my calorie goal different from what I expected?

Your goal is calculated from your weight, height, age, sex, activity level, and weight goal. Make sure all these values are correct in Edit Profile. If you've recently changed your weight or activity level, update your profile and the goal will recalculate automatically.

How accurate are the nutritional values?

Nutritional values come from established food databases and are reliable estimates for standard foods. However, actual values vary by brand, preparation method, and portion size. For medical dietary requirements, always verify values with a registered dietitian.

How do I change my daily calorie goal?

Your daily calorie goal is calculated automatically. In Profile → Personal goals, adjust the weekly weight goal slider to change how fast you lose or gain weight — this sets your calorie target. You can also update your measurements in Edit Profile, and the goal recalculates using the Mifflin-St Jeor formula.

Can I edit a food entry after logging it?

Yes. Tap any food item on the Home screen or in the Diary to open the edit sheet. You can change the quantity in grams and all nutritional values update instantly. Tap the delete icon to remove the entry.

What does the "Needs attention" card mean?

This card appears when one or more nutrients (such as sugar, saturated fat, or sodium) have exceeded their recommended daily limit. Tap the card to see which nutrient is too high, which foods contributed most, and practical tips to reduce your intake tomorrow.

How do I delete my account?

Go to Profile → Manage account → Delete account. This action is permanent and cannot be undone. All your data — food logs, profile information, and settings — will be permanently removed within 30 days.

Is my data private?

Yes. Your data is stored locally on your device and, if you have an account, on our secure servers with encryption. We do not sell your data or use it for advertising. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
